DQ quirks
I LOVE my daughter. I cannot imagine life without her and only vaguely remember life before her. I just wanted to say that up front before I move on to her quirkiness that sometimes makes life...well...not difficult exactly, maybe interesting is the best word.
When DQ was little we didn't go anywhere and we never, ever, ever left her with a sitter. I didn't think we had enough money to pay a sitter what they deserved. She has always been overly sensory. She had a pacifier until she was six. Yes, six. Actually she had pacifiers...plural. One was never enough. She needed one for her mouth and one for each hand. She was medically fragile when small and she did NOT sleep without a pacifier. Those pacis saved me many nights of walking the floor. My siblings were horrified. (Okay, I think my siblings might continue to be horrified about some of my parenting decisions. Whatever.) I guess they thought she would graduate with one...okay, some days I thought she would graduate with one.
She's moved past the paci stage but not past the "putting everything in her mouth" stage. She is almost 11...when does that stage end??? We are on the third set of mini blinds in the past twelve months. She has a window with a window seat. She sits, looks out the window...and EATS HER MINI BLINDS. I'm not kidding. There are bite marks out of her blinds...she doesn't swallow them...only chews them. I tried chewies (necklaces designed for chewing) but since they touch her neck...they are out.
Which brings me to her next quirk. Her neck...can't touch it...can't have clothes touch it...can't have her hair touch it...did I mention her hair is halfway down her back and she won't cut it? Ponytails every single day.
Really, I could go on and on. Socks must line up on her toes. Shoes must be one size too small...yeah...figure that one out. Pants must not button, only snaps will do. Before taking her medicine each morning she has to 1. spit, 2. spit, 3. eat something salty, 4. swallow her pill, 5. gag repeatedly, 6. drink something carbonated. Getting ready for school every morning requires me to be seriously caffeinated.
So, anyone else have kids with quirks? Please share with me...make me feel better!

About Me
I'm a wife, a mom, an educator and a normal (okay, relative term here) person who makes frequent mistakes. I have a lot to say, hence the blog. My kids were adopted as babies (one through an agency and one through the foster care system). I love to talk about adoption. My daughter has sensory issues as well as ADHD. I like to vent about parenting. I am occasionally rosy, usually blunt and sometimes I am simply downright rude. Don't read if it offends you. I may sometimes write about my school experiences so let me cover my bases. I don't live in your town, I don't work at your school, I am not talking about your child, you don't know me. If you think you've figured out who I am...ask me, I will lie and say you don't know me. email me at chocolatecoffeesleep@hotmail.com
